What to Expect When Your Bookkeeping Firm Is Acquired: Aconter Welcomes Keen Bean Bookkeepers

By August 8, 2026No Comments

Hearing that your bookkeeping firm has been acquired can be a little unsettling, even when the news is good. You’ve built a relationship with someone who knows your business — your numbers, your quirks, your busy seasons — and it’s fair to wonder whether that’s about to change.

So we’ll say it plainly: as of July 15, 2026, Aconter has acquired Keen Bean Bookkeepers, founded by Kim White, CPA, and Kristie Gibson. And we didn’t do this to change what Keen Bean built. We did it because what they built was worth growing.

Why We’re Excited About This

Keen Bean earned its reputation the old-fashioned way — by paying close attention and treating clients like people, not accounts. That’s not something we wanted to disrupt. If anything, it’s the reason this partnership made sense in the first place.

What changes is what’s available behind that same relationship. Clients now have access to the full Aconter team — CFO-level advisory, in-house tax preparation, payroll, financial strategy — the kind of support that’s hard for a smaller firm to offer on its own, no matter how good the bookkeeping is.

Kim White isn’t going anywhere, either. She’s stepping into a quality and compliance oversight role, which basically means she’s still keeping an eye on the details clients have always counted on her for. Kristie continues on with clients directly — so the people who’ve always known your business are still the ones you’ll be talking to.

What Actually Changes (and What Doesn’t)

Stays the same:

  • Your day-to-day contact and how you’re used to working together
  • The same care and accuracy your books have always gotten
  • A team that already knows your business

Gets better:

  • Access to outsourced CFO services — cash flow forecasting, margin analysis, business planning
  • Business tax return preparation, in-house (partnerships, S-corps, C-corps)
  • Payroll processing and compliance support
  • More people to lean on as your business grows and gets more complicated

Why We Approach Acquisitions This Way

Small bookkeeping firms often hit a point where they’ve outgrown what a lean team can realistically handle — not because the work suffers, but because clients start needing things (CFO guidance, multi-entity tax work, payroll at scale) that a small shop just isn’t built to offer. The usual solution is that clients eventually “graduate” to a bigger firm and start over with someone new. We’d rather skip that part. An acquisition like this means the people and process you already trust stay exactly where they are — we’re just adding more underneath it.
